|Style| BeetleJuice! BeetleJuice! BeetleJuice!

DSC04062-800
Halloween is hands down my favourite holiday.  Even more so than Christmas.  It’s all the things I love coming together to create the ultimate look!  If you know me, you know I like to go hard for Halloween.  Even though I’ve been crazy busy this month, I didn’t want to drop the ball for Halloween.  And since Halloween needed to be on a budget this year (saving for some exciting things to come!), I wanted the look to be makeup focused.

As a kid BeetleJuice always scared me.  But as I got older, I’ve fallen in love with all things Tim Burton.  The aesthetic and charm of his movies draw you into his world, and I’ve alway had a soft spot for Winona Ryder in all their works together.  Enter the perfect costume: Lydia Deetz!

I had all I needed at home already!  I transformed an old wig from an old costume, into Lydia’s signature half-up-half-down, interesting bangs hairstyle, and layered on the black and black clothes.  For the makeup, I wanted to keep true to the makeup from the movie, but make it a little more glam, with some extra contouring and lashes!

All in all the costume was pretty simple, but the reactions I got while out, were priceless.  What did you dress up as?  Feel free to share links in the comments!

|Style| Two Ways To Wear It - The Plaid Shirt

DSC08472combo-800
Nothing says fall more than red plaid. It’s cozy and warm.  The colour combination of crimson and black plays of the richness of the fall palette.  It’s the perfect fall staple.  When I spotted this great plaid shirt I just knew it would be a versatile piece for the season.  I also love the lace detail, that gives this otherwise androgynous shirt a feminine edge.

Here I style this one top, two ways.

Plaid, lace and leather, some of my favourites!  Here I paired my shirt with a leather-look skater skirt, cut-out booties and this amazing hat!  The look says fall witch, in all the best ways.  It’s dark, yet refined.

For my next look, I wanted to keep the vibe more casual.  Playing off a more grunge take on plaid, I paired my shirt, this time open as a jacket, over an all black base with a slouchy bag and sequined beanie.  The look is laid back, but edgy.

|Style| Three Ways To Wear It - The Midi Dress

DSC08384-Threesomev2-800
One of my staple pieces for this fall season, is the midi dress.  It’s the perfect combination of length, function and versatility.  Here I’ve styled my dress three ways to carry this one piece from easy basic, to sporty casual, to polished business savvy.  With a few accessory changes and layering this one dress takes on three easy, yet distinct vibes.

What I love about just throwing on this dress is the simplicity of it.  It’s a great backdrop for creating different looks, but it looks so effortless on it’s own.  Here I paired it with cutout booties and understated accessories.

Using the dress as a foundation layer, I used a cropped sweatshirt for more a more sporty feel.  It’s gives the illusion of a midi skirt, giving you more than just a dress.  With an oversized slouchy bag, the look stays casual.

The sign of a truly versatile dress, is being able to dress it up and pair it down.  By popping on a blazer vest, a great structured bag and a belt, the dress transforms from casual to sophisticated.  Instead of a basic belt, here I opted for this amazing Oxford Collar Harness, by TheLeatherCoven.  It’s a sexy twist on a collared shirt and gives the look an edge.
